1000 Friends explores ballot measure approach to Measure 37
All over
Oregon, property owners are waking up to a new threat: development due
to Measure 37 waivers granted by state and local governments. These
waivers threaten to interfere with farming operations and reduce property
values in rural communities, on farm and forest lands, and in neighborhoods.
We are hearing from concerned landowners all across Oregon. On October
4, 1000 Friends and farmer and landowner allies filed two potential
ballot measures, both entitled the "Homeowner and Family Farmer
Bill of Rights" that seek to restore fairness in government actions
under Measure 37. On October 13, the Secretary of State issued draft
ballot titles for the two measures we filed. For Initiative 80, the
draft ballot title is:"Limits Government Authority To Waive
Land Use Regulations; Allows Dwelling If Allowed When Property Acquired."
For Initiative 81, the draft ballot title is "Limits Government
Authority To Condemn Private Property For Public Use Or Waive Land Use
Regulations." Download

Director Elon Hasson.

Shooing cows away: losing local milk supplies due to poor planning
It is the
second time the Vanderham family has had to move their dairy farm. This
time it is away from Southern California's high land prices and sprawling
towns. Oregon still looks good in comparison. For details on the price
everyone pays for not protecting farmland, click here.
